Limus® Nitrogen Management

Description

How Limus® Nitrogen Management Works
One of the three primary plant nutrients, nitrogen is the engine of plant growth. Nitrogen enables photosynthesis and the creation of amino acids that are the building blocks of protein How Headline AMP® Fungicide Works s. It is required in large quantities throughout the growing season for the best plant outcomes. The challenge for growers is minimizing nitrogen loss to protect yields and the environment.

Urea-based fertilizers are one of the most important nitrogen fertilizers in the world, but they risk breaking down via urease enzymes when the fertilizer is not incorporated into the soil through tillage, rainfall, or irrigation.

This results in nitrogen being lost through volatilization: on average, only 50 percent of total applied nitrogen is taken up by a plant, and the rate that can drop to as low as 20 percent under certain conditions.

The loss of nitrogen can starve crops of needed nutrients, jeopardizing plant health and yield potential.

Benefits of Limus® Nitrogen Management:

  • Protection against the loss of nitrogen, the most important element for plant development
  • Optimal nitrogen availability during critical crop growth stages for more consistent yield
  • Increased options for timing of nitrogen applications in a grower’s management system

Greater Nitrogen Use Efficiency
Limus Nitrogen Management has two urease inhibitors that together are more effective on the range of soil urease enzymes than a single inhibitor. Greater urea protection leads to improved nitrogen availability during critical crop-growth stages for more consistent yields.

Better Farm Management
Limus Nitrogen Management helps provide a long planning horizon and improved return on investment for growers. Added protection from volatilization loss means improved nitrogen application flexibility. This provides improved significant opportunity for efficiency and flexibility in growers’ nitrogen-management programs.

Improved Storage and Transportation
Limus Nitrogen Management brings solutions to those in the fertilizer market who face operational challenges in the transportation, application, storage and handling of urea-based fertilizers. The formulation’s stability and urea protection provide an extended amount of storage time and more transportation flexibility under a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions.

Improved Environmental Outcomes
Urease activity in the soil can convert urea to ammonia gas, a pollutant that contributes to smog, eutrophication, and ecosystem changes, which is why emerging regulations worldwide seek to limit ammonia emissions from urea-based fertilizers. Limus Nitrogen Management blocks urease activity to prevent ammonia release into the atmosphere.

Mode of Action
Urease is an extracellular enzyme found in most soils that can bind to urea and hydrolyze it into ammonia gas. Limus Nitrogen Management urease inhibitors bind to the urease active site, preventing urea hydrolysis and reducing ammonia formation. Its combination of two active ingredients enables the product to be more effective against a wide range of urease characteristics, which can vary depending on the urease origin and soil properties.
